UPCOMING EVENTS: The End of the Year Banquet will be held on MAY 17TH, at Sudwerk's Brewery and Restaurant, starting at 6 pm. The event will be honoring Former Head Coach Steve Gray, the first recipient of the UC Davis Rugby Babe Slater Award, anually awarded to individuals who have put forth tremendous time and effort in the past to make UC Davis Men's Rugby a top tier program.
04/05/08: Facing a fresh St Mary's side who had a opening round "bye" into the second day of the tournament, the UC Davis Aggies dug deep and laid everything they had on the field. Coming from behind after a slow start to tie the game at 22-22, the Gael's snatched victory from the eyes of defeat on a breakaway to shatter the Aggies' aspirations of advancing to the Round of 16 in New Mexico. While the Aggies failed to advance to the national tournament for the second straight year, they have many reasons to hold their heads high as they had a great season.
04/04/08: The Aggies were able to hold off the stingy Stanford Cardinal on Friday evening defeating them 25-20 in the first round of the playoffs. With the win UC Davis will now face off against St. Mary's to see who advances to the Round of 16. Take the short drive to Moraga and support the Aggies at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
03/15/08: The Aggies put forth a gutsy performance against the reinging champions UC Berkeley Saturday, loosing 38-10. Cal put forth their best 15 and the Aggies responded by holding them to one of their lowest and closest scoreline of the year. They were many positives to be taken from the contest, and the Aggies look forward to their showdown against SMC March 27th in Moraga.
03/08/08: With the injury bug finally biting the Aggies, UC Davis struggled against a well drilled Stanford side, coming from behind to tie the Cardinals 19-19. While Davis showed patches of brilliant rugby, they couldn't finish when they needed to, resulting in the disappointing tie. However, they remain in second in league, and will need to win one of the remaining two games in order to secure home field advantage in the P.C.R.F.U. playoffs.
03/01/08: The Aggies took down rival foes Sac St in a traditional hard hitting affair, with the Aggies coming out on top 47-17. The backs were virtually unstoppable, and the big guys up front settled down after a frusterating first fifteen minutes to provide clean ball to Scrumhalf John Parshall. The Aggs look to beat up again on the Cardinals next week with their second to last home game of the season.
02/23/08: The Aggies traveled down the Palo Alto to take on a much improved Stanford front, yet putting them away 33-19. The Aggies were their own worst enemy in the first half, racking up the penalty count and continually knocking on balls, thwarting any offensive threats. The Aggies have yet to put together a full 80 minutes of solid play, however look to do so against a fierce Sac St side this weekend in Sacramento. 02/09/2008:On beautiful Saturday afternoon in Davis, the Aggies were finally able to avenge last year's playoff lose to St Mary's by taking down the previously unbeaten Gael's 26-19. 02/02/08: In the rain and mud, the Aggies got back into winning form by taking down rival foe Sac St. It was all Aggies in the first half, dominating poccession and going into the break with a comfortable 19-0 lead. The second half, the pace slowed down as the field started having an impact on the game. The final whistle blew with the Agg's winning 27-7, setting up a huge home game next week against St. Mary's. Check for league standings at the bottom of the page and a full recap under the recap page.
01/26/08: The Aggies struggled against a strong Chico St side and lost 15-7. On a narrow, uneven pitch, UC Davis couldn't get any momentum going throughout the contest, constantly being penalized and turned away by Chico near the goal line. The Aggs look onto next week to get back into winning form as they take on Sac St at home. Despite the loss, UC Davis still remains in second place behind St. Mary's.
01/19/08: On a beautiful afternoon in Davis, the Aggies thoroughly picked apart the Reno Wolfpack to a final score of 46-12. The Agg's got off to a fast start by scoring 17 points in the first 11 minutes, and never looked back. The forwards controlled the ball in every aspect of the game, and the elusive backs showed plenty of speed out wide and power insided as six different players scored. Check the recap page for a full account of the game. League standings are at the bottom of the page.
01/12/08: The Aggies avenged last year's opening season lost to Chico St by taking down the Wildcats 18-13 on Russell Field. With a very limited week of practice, the Aggies set out to play strong defense, and that's exactly what they did, holding CSU to only two tries. Unfortunately the Aggs only scored three of their own, however, it was enough for the W. For now that puts the Aggs at the top of the NCRFU at 2-0. Check the recaps page for a full acount of the game.
12/02/07: The Aggie men came out to a strong start against a physical UNR team to take a 22-0 halftime lead. Extending the lead to 27-0 ten minutes into the second half, the Aggies lost their focus and allowed UNR back into the game with 19 unanswered points in the last twenty minutes of the game. The B-Side game was the real story of the day, however, taking the Wolfpack down in dramatic fashion, 31-30, in the closing minutes of the game. Check the recaps page for a full game report!
11/17/07:In what proved to be a disappointing loss, the Aggies battled for 80 minutes against a solid Cal Poly team to fall just short, 40-27 on a beautiful pitch in Arroyo Grande, just south of San Luis Obispo. Check the recaps page for a full game report!
11/10/07: In their second home game of the season, the Aggies picked apart the Santa Clara University 66-6. A handful of players touched down twice, and all 15 played sound defense only allowing two penalty kicks. Although a great effort, the Aggs first true test comes this Saturday against Cal Poly in SLO. Check the recaps page for a full game recap!
11/03/07: The UC Davis Aggies opened up their 2007-2008 campaign against Humboldt, defeating the Jacks 41-10 on Russell Field. There were many unanswered questions leading up to the Aggies first game; yet they answered with six tries against one en route to a solid opening performance. Led by All-American Prop Ben Reynolds with two tries, the Aggies effectively and repeatedly broke through the Jacks defensive line with a nice offensive display. The Aggs take on the University of Santa Clara in their second pre-season game in Davis next weekend. Check the recaps page for a full game recap!
