Welcome to DUI 2006. We are looking forward to having you all at this
year's tourney.
First of all, we would like to address the issue of weather. As many
of you know, Northern California has been bombarded by rain for pretty
much the last month. The next week calls for the wet weather to
continue. Fortunately, the Davis fields drain pretty well and our
Sport Clubs department wants to help us as much as possible.
We are hopeful that all of our fields will be open. However, we are
planning to use some of the football and lacrosse fields next weekend.
Intercollegiate sports may close these fields if the rain does not let
up some. We will probably not know if these fields will be closed
until this Friday. 10 of our fields are controlled by the Sport Clubs
department. Sport Clubs has informed us that these fields will likely
stay open for us unless we experience "monsoon-like" weather.
So there are three scenarios. The best-case scenario is that all of
our fields remain open. We have included this schedule as an
attachment.
The ok-case scenario is that 10 of our fields remain open but we lose
the intercollegiate fields. In the event that this occurs, we will be
holding shorter rounds and splitting the day in half to accommodate at
least four or five hours of playing for everyone. We have a schedule
prepared for Saturday and Sunday in this case. We hope that everyone
will still want to play in this modified schedule, but we will discuss
reimbursements at that time if your team does not wish to participate
in this manner.
The worst-case scenario is that the University wants to close all of
the fields. In this case, our Sport Clubs department has said that we
will do the best we can to accommodate teams whose travel plans are
non-refundable. Please let us know if your team falls in this
category. We will discuss money, etc. at a later time, if this happens
to occur. Please note that this scenario has been deemed highly
unlikely by the Sport Clubs department, so look forward to finally
being able to play some Ultimate in Northern California.
We will be in contact with you all to let you know how the weather has
treated us as the week progresses. For starters, we were supposed to
have rain all day today, but it has only sprinkled some from about 10
am through this evening.
