FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is prior experience necessary?
No. People of all levels and backgrounds are welcome.

When are practices held?
Practice schedules may vary from quarter to quarter, but most commonly we practice on Monday and Wednesday from 7-9 at either the east or west side of the rec hall. Exact times and dates will be posted on the website.

When is the first practice?
Usually at the beginning of each quarter we will hold a general meeting on the first practice day (Monday or Wednesday) once instruction begins. Often enough there is an unofficial practice after the meeting. The first official practice is the next Mon. or Wed. following the meeting. (ex: if instruction starts Tuesday, the meeting is held on Wednesday and the first official practice is held on the following Monday) Subject to change, but all changes will be posted on the update page.

How much does the club cost?
$20 per quarter, not including shoes and weapons.

How do we order shoes and weapons?
Orders should be placed within the first 3 weeks of the quarter with Winnie Lau. There will be an announcement made at practice. *Shoes are not required but are highly recommended.

How do we know what shoe size we are?
Your wushu shoe size is most typically your European shoe size. It should be somewhere between 30-50. The inside tag of your normal shoes should have your Euro size listed.

When should we order weapons?
Weapons should be ordered only after you have completed learning the second hand form.

What style do you do?
The instructors are trained in wushu and class will be held as a wushu class. However there are members that have studied more traditional forms and we welcome all styles.

What do we learn?
You learn the basics of wushu that will allow you to learn the forms. The forms are as follows: basic hand form, intermediate hand, beginner's weapons (staff and broadsword). Progression beyond here is based on each individual and their skills.

Is there testing?
In an informal sense there is. You spend 2 quarters per form. One to learn it, one to perfect it. This is to assure people do not enter the next level without having the proper basics to move on. This is especially important when moving on to weapons because there is a lot to learn and not a lot of room (space-wise) to make mistakes. If an instructor feels you are not ready to move on after two quarters then you will not move on.

How do we get t-shirts?
Hopefully we will have a new t-shirt every year. But I must stress that t-shirt orders are placed once a year. No exceptions. The order will be placed some time during winter quarter. If you miss it, you miss it.
